:: The Apetalous Poet ::
As an Anglophone poet, a person who writes exclusively in English, it has taken me more than ten years to find my niche in the universe. The fact that my parents are Arabs, that I live in Kuwait, and have been surrounded by fellow Arabs, has meant that my work has never been comprehended by my society. So, like a flower with no petals, I do not truly belong in the east, nor the west. My roots are in Kuwait, but my voice – the voice of Shurooq the poet – has scattered in petals that have flown across oceans and skies, and have found a home in literary journals, presses, and award-winning publications in the west, leaving an Apetalous poet back home.
