In commemoration of the Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) birthday and the occasion of the National and Liberation Day, The Scientific Center Kuwait is offering discounts of up to 50% on individual attraction tickets as well as the combo tickets for all visitors from February 25th to March 1st. The first day of celebrations will also mark the beginning of our ‘Name the Penguins’ contest. Visit the 8 African penguins in the Aquarium, choose names and enter the contest using the interactive screens! 8 winners will win a Samsung laptop and a $300 (cashU) card. The African penguins are officially sponsored by ExxonMobil, while contest prizes are provided by Andalus Trading Company and Cameo Computer Services. The ‘Name the Penguins’ contest runs from February 25th to April 1st. Winners will be announced on April 16th, during The Scientific Center’s 10th anniversary celebration. AQUARIUM INTERACTIVE SCREENS @ The Scientific Center of Kuwait

The Scientific Center of Kuwait is pleased to announce the launch of the Aquarium Interactive System today, 14th December, 2009. Mr. Mijbil Almutawa, the Chairman & Managing Director, expressed his pride in being the first Aquarium in the world to install such a system. He also congratulated the TSCK Team for the successful launch of this project that involved 9 months of hard work and dedication. THE AQUARIUM INTERACTIVE SYSTEM is an effort to provide relevant information to the visitors through 42 interactive touch-screens. Large interactive 46” screens are placed at prime locations, while smaller 26” interactive screens are placed in front of each exhibit. All the screens operate at the touch of your fingertip and provide relevant information about the exhibit such as: animal facts, what they eat, how they live etc. Videos and pictures are used to support the information. Some screens also have KIDS section that aims to provide relevant knowledge through interesting games and activities. The visitors have the option to select the language of their choice, either Arabic or English. The screens are an added value that enriches the visitors’ tour of the Aquarium with no extra costs, simply by purchasing a ticket not only to walk through but now to interact as well within this attraction, for only KD 3 per adult and KD 2 per child.

Outstanding Eid at The Scientific Center

The Scientific Center of Kuwait receive a high number of visitors this Eid, the number was much larger than expected and compromised mostly of families. Mr. Mijbil Al Mutawa (Chairman and Managing Director) added that the number of visitors reached almost 30,000 people within the five day weekend. These numbers confirm the importance of The Scientific Center amongst the residents and visitors of Kuwait, for its strategic picturesque location and its educational and entertaining attractions appropriate for all demographics.

The corridors filled with excitement was not only for the sold out IMAX films ( Bugs and T-Rex) and the Aquarium, but for the newest addition to the Discovery Place the traveling exhibit ” Flight”. These 17 interactive exhibits which arrived all the way from Finland are only at the Scientific Center till April 10. They test the visitor’s skill as a pilot and teach them about the physics of flying. Kids can also make their own paper airplanes and test them, or play dress-up in the many costumes available to them. The IMAX films “Under the Sea”, “Journey to Mecca”, “T-Rex”, “Bugs”, and “Fires of Kuwait” will continue after December 5th. “The dream of flying…Can now be a reality” at the Discovery Place in The Scientific Center Kuwait

The Scientific Center Kuwait proudly opened its first of many Travelling Exhibits entitled Flight! under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Al Abdullah Al Ahmed Al Sabah, Minister of Oil and Minister of Information on October 11, 2009 at 10:00am at the Discovery Place.

Representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Education, several oil companies, airlines, the Civil Aviation in Kuwait and students from various schools attended the opening.

Mr. Mijbil Almutawa, Chairman and Managing Director of The Scientific Center gave a speech, as well as Dr. Per-Edvin Persson, Director of Heureka, the Finnish Science Centre, which is where the Flight! exhibit originated. Guests were taken on a tour of the exhibits, which includes 17 interactive stations in the space of 460 square meters, ranging from testing your piloting skills, to learning about present day aviation and air traffic.

The exhibits will be at the Discovery Place until April 10, 2010.

The Flight! exhibits might aptly be subtitled: “The first 100 years of aviation”. Inspired by the effortless gliding of gulls and the annual marathons of migratory birds, man has always dreamt of flight. From Leonardo’s drawings, through experiments with kites and gliders, came the breakthrough of those meticulous engineers- the Wright Brothers. This exhibit pays homage to the pioneers, and then skips through the 20th century to set summer-holiday flights and daily airport operations in their technical and social context.

Test yourself at the Flight! Exhibits in Discovery Place to see if you have what it takes to be a pilot; including vision tests, co-ordination tests and more!

The exhibit contains three main areas: Fly A: The dream of flying, Fly B: On the wing-The physics of flying, and Fly C: Present day and air traffic.

The Scientific Center Kuwait is pleased to announce the opening of the FLIGHT Exhibit on 11th Oct, 2009 at 10:00 am under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Al Abdullah Al Ahmed Al Sabah, Minister of Oil and Minister of Information.

The 17 different stations will be available in the Discovery Place at TSCK! This section can be aptly called the “First 100 years of aviation” as it pays homage to the pioneers. Also aspiring pilots can know if they can be one; music lovers get a chance to enjoy the jukebox filled with music related to flight and young researchers will be able to understand the physics of flying….

Thus the DREAM OF FLYING….. Can now be a reality!!

The FLIGHT Exhibit will be open to public on 11th Oct, 2009 at 12:30 noon.

Gulf Air announces the launch of flights to Najaf

Gulf Air introduces its new service to the holy city of Najaf, Iraq starting 26th September 2009. This new service is in addition to Gulf Air’s five weekly flights to Baghdad. Furthermore Najaf will become a daily service starting 26th October 2009, with flights to Erbil commencing on the same date.

On the First Day of Eid Al Fitr, the largest IMAX screen in Kuwait at The Scientific Center will premiere its latest 3D film “Under the Sea”.

The film is directedby Award-winning documentary filmmaker Howard Hall and the production team behind IMAX® film favorites “Deep Sea 3D” and “Into the Deep 3D”. Filmed entirely with IMAX® 3D cameras for a vivid, immersive viewing experience unlike any other, this new film will transport audiences to some of the most exotic and isolated undersea locations on Earth, including Southern Australia and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as Papua New Guinea and Indonesia in the famed Coral Triangle, for face-to-face encounters with some of the most mysterious and stunning creatures of the sea.
