Gulf Air announces the launch of flights to Najaf

Gulf Air introduces its new service to the holy city of Najaf, Iraq starting 26^th September 2009. This new service is in addition to Gulf Air’s five weekly flights to Baghdad. Furthermore Najaf will become a daily service starting 26^th October 2009, with flights to Erbil commencing on the same date.

Qatar Airways may launch budget airline

State-owned Qatar Airways will only launch a low-cost unit if its market share is eroded by existing budget carriers, Chief Executive Akbar al-Baker said on Tuesday.

He said the airline plans to continue expanding despite the slowdown in global travel and will be taking delivery of 15 new aircraft per year.

“We have no problems in funding. Our credit rating is strong,” he said.

Qatar Airways will add eight new destinations this year, he said.

He declined to give any figures when asked about speculation of a significant new order by the airline at the Paris Airshow later this month.

Sudanese airliner operates route to Kuwait in mid June

Sudanese private “Sun Air” airliner is to operate a route to Kuwait International Airport as of June 18, said the Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority said on Tuesday.
The authority said the company is to run three trips per week and that the Khartoum-Kuwait-Khartoum route would be served by a Boeing 737.
Sun Air started operations June 2008 with a fleet of one Airbus A310-300 and three Boeing 737-200 craft. The airline currently operates on domestic routes and also covers Sharjah, Juba, Nyala, El fashir, Elgenana, and Port Sudan.
